EDUCATION

Explore the world of ice sports inside or outside of the classroom with our Schools on Skates Programs (SOS), IceReach In-school Assemblies, workshops, school residencies or attendance at one of our Student Matinee Ice Shows (SMIS).   On ice or off, IceReach creates opportunities that students will find both entertaining and educational.

Our assemblies, field trips and study guides can be tied to school curriculum and satisfy many of the state learning standards for grades K-12:

• The History of Ice Sports (History, Cultural Arts & Geography)
• The Science of Ice Sports & Arenas
• Arts Appreciation: Fine Arts emphasis through the study of
   Figure Skating Physical Education
• Character Counts Programs: Qualities traits of champions on & off the ice

Our study guides can easily and effectively be included within the school curriculum to meet state standards for education.  Whether it is the action-packed athletic ice sports like hockey or speed skating that get your students hooked, or perhaps it is exploring the artistry of figure skating, or the intellectual strategy of curling, your students will become fascinated by the world of ice sports and teachers will be amazed at the learning opportunities that unfold.

Our presentations are customizable for any age group and can vary in length from a 30 minute sports demo to a full day workshop. Our most popular formats are as follows:

SOS Program (Schools on Skates):
Schools on Skates is an opportunity for students to come and try skating and receive instructor from professional coaches in a group lesson atmosphere; great for multiple classes.

Assemblies: Geared toward any age group, this is a lively 40- to 50-minute presentation that includes a history lesson, athlete speakers and sport demonstrations.

Workshops: We work with physical education and fine arts teachers to create energizing, age-appropriate workshops that get students moving and learning about ice sports.  If your school cannot make arrangements to bring students to an ice rink, IceReach can easily adapt these sport demonstrations to your school’s gymnasium.  Gyms are perfect locations where we can take all four ice sports and practice them on the floor.

Residency Programs: IceReach works with schools and organizations to provide long-term ongoing workshops and programs for students. Each residency varies depending upon the needs and desired outcomes of the host site.

Student Matinee Ice Shows (SMIS):
Where else can someone see a professional demonstration of ALL four Olympic ice sports?  This is a fantastic opportunity to have your class enjoy and learn about the world of ice.  Shows are one hour in length and include professional and competitive athletes from all four genres.
